Washington, D.C., and Williamsburg, Va.—GuideStar USA, Inc., the leading source of nonprofit information, today announced the promotion of Kelly Ann Whalen to chief development officer, further strengthening GuideStar's fundraising leadership and acumen. A GuideStar employee of three years, Kelly has a proven track record of securing and managing membership support, general operating grants, and other project grants on behalf of GuideStar.

On behalf of GuideStar, Kelly builds and manages relationships with a portfolio of 150 active donors as well as a significant and sizable prospect pool. Under her direction, GuideStar has increased the number of foundation members from 43 in 2007 to more than 100 in 2010, and renewals are consistently near 100 percent.
Kelly comes to this role with 20 years of executive experience in fundraising, management, and volunteer leadership at some of the nation's leading nonprofits, including the Smithsonian Institution and Georgetown University. A Certified Fund Raising Executive (C.F.R.E.) since 1996, Kelly holds a master's degree, earned with honors, from Georgetown University and a bachelor's degree from Long Island University, C.W. Post Campus.
