Release date: November 2, 2011

Washington, D.C.—GuideStar, the leading source of nonprofit information, today announced the addition of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, based in Sarasota, Fla., to the 2312GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community (DELC), a group of highly engaged community foundations that use the 2258GuideStar DonorEdge tool to collect data directly from the nonprofits in their communities. GuideStar DonorEdge is a technology and knowledge platform that enables community foundations to encourage increased charitable giving and to promote awareness of local needs and issues to donors and the community. Community foundations, like the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, use GuideStar DonorEdge to vet the data their local nonprofits provide, then share, present, and package that information online, in print, and in reports, presentations, and other materials.

"We have a long-standing relationship with the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, and we are thrilled that they have decided to join the GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community," said Lori Larson, senior director of GuideStar DonorEdge. "For 32 years, they have connected caring individuals with the causes they are passionate about, and we know that our DonorEdge platform will make that connection even more streamlined and powerful."

With the addition of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County, 12 members make up the DELC:

  • Blue Grass Community Foundation
  • The Boston Foundation
  • Community Foundation of Acadiana
  • Community Foundation of Central Florida
  • The Community Foundation for Greater New Haven
  • Community Foundation of Middle Tennessee
  • NEW! Community Foundation of Sarasota County
  • The Community Foundation Serving Richmond & Central Virginia
  • Greater Kansas City Community Foundation
  • Kern Community Foundation
  • The Pittsburgh Foundation
  • The San Diego Foundation

The DonorEdge nonprofit profile contains four major areas of nonprofit effectiveness: programs, management, governance, and financials. These areas are critical to helping community foundations ensure grantmaking excellence, educate donors, and establish expertise within the community. GuideStar and the DELC partnership is a collaborative learning exchange. The partnership includes sharing of resources, materials, best practices, operational strategies, and an annual meeting, in addition to regular communication and collaboration.

"We are so pleased to join the ranks of the DonorEdge Learning Community," said Roxie Jerde, president and CEO of the Community Foundation of Sarasota County. "In partnership with the Gulf Coast Community Foundation and the Manatee Community Foundation along with support from The Patterson Foundation, we are confident our generous community will utilize The Giving Partner, our local brand of GuideStar DonorEdge, to give even more strategically to our local nonprofits. We know that the GuideStar DonorEdge platform gives us a leg up in making sure the nonprofit information we provide is trusted and of the highest quality. We also anticipate the exchange of vital tools and information with our fellow DonorEdge Learning Community members, which are invaluable in tight times such as these."
