GuideStar DonorEdge Growth Allows Expanded Connection Between Charitable Organizations and Local Donors and Funders in Communities Across the Country
Release date: December 3, 2012

Washington, D.C.—GuideStar—the leading source of nonprofit information—today announced the addition of the Orange County Community Foundation (OCCF), based in Newport Beach, Calif., as the 15th member of the GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community, a group of highly engaged community foundations that use the GuideStar DonorEdge tool to collect data directly from the nonprofits in their communities.

"The Orange County Community Foundation does incredible work in its region, and we are thrilled that they have decided to join the GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community," said Lori Larson, senior director of GuideStar DonorEdge. "For more than 20 years the organization has connected caring individuals with the causes they are passionate about, and we know that our DonorEdge platform will make that connection even more streamlined and powerful."

OCCF plans to launch the custom-branded DonorEdge database in spring 2013. "ConnectOC Nonprofit Central" will be housed on ConnectOC.org, a new Web site that provides residents and donors in-depth information on critical needs in the areas of basic needs like food and shelter; health and wellness; and education.

GuideStar DonorEdge is a technology and knowledge platform that enables community foundations to encourage increased charitable giving and to promote awareness of local needs and issues to donors and the community. Community foundations use GuideStar DonorEdge to vet, share, and package nonprofit information in a variety of ways. GuideStar DonorEdge Learning Community members benefit by engaging in collaborative learning exchanges, including shared resources, materials, best practices, operational strategies, and an annual meeting, in addition to regular communication and collaboration.

The addition of OCCF is a strategic alliance for the DonorEdge Learning Community. Since 1989, OCCF has worked in partnership with generous individuals, families, and business leaders to build a stronger, healthier, more vibrant community. It has awarded more than $225 million in grants to meet critical needs in Orange County, the nation, and around the world.

"We are pleased to join community foundation colleagues in the DonorEdge Learning Community," said Shelley Hoss, president of the Orange County Community Foundation. "For the past 23 years, our donors have benefited from our deep insight and philanthropic knowledge of Orange County. Through the GuideStar DonorEdge platform, we are able to share this information more broadly and are confident that the nonprofit information we will provide is of the highest quality. We also look forward to exchanging vital information with our fellow DonorEdge members, which is invaluable in times such as these."
